After a period of teasing and many positive comments on it ITEAD released on October 11th their first Sonoff Kickstarter campaign with their new Sonoff NSPanel: a multifunctional HMI device. A device that can be used as central interface to operate 8 other devices / scenes, acts as a thermostat and shows the weather. The campaign turned out to be a great success to them.

At this moment of writing backers pledged €210,954 to the Sonoff NSPanel. This about 4904% of the original goal of €4,300. These values are automatically converted values by Kickstarter as the original valuta of the campaign is Honk Kong dollars. ITEAD did not set any extended goals in advance and we did not receive any information they are planning to set new extended goals.

You can still pledge your money for the Sonoff NSPanel untill November 10th, 2:59 PM CET. That is 0:59 PM / 12:59 GMT.

ITEAD listened to their customers; shared IO definition

Many Sonoff users know that Sonoff is famous and well known because of the hackability of the the devices manufactured by them. Most Sonoff devices are build with Espressif chipsets like the ESP8266, ESP8285 and ESP32. These chipsets do have a big community which delivers great support for building own firmwares with several programming languages like Arduino and MicroPython. The advantage of that is most Sonoff devices can be programmed with a custom build firmware. Tasmota is one of the most popular pre-build custom firmwares.

Mostly custom firmware for Sonoff devices are very straighforward: it supports buttons, relays and leds. But with the Sonoff NSPanel there has become a need for support for a Nextion display. Users asked ITEAD for documentation and community support for the Nextion display part of the Sonoff NSPanel. ITEAD addressed this demand with sharing the NSPanel IO definition:

They also shared a link to the Nextion HMI Project upload protocol: https://nextion.tech/2017/12/08/nextion-hmi-upload-protocol-v1-1/

Philips Hue support

In their latest Kickstarter campaign update ITEAD shared the news that the Sonoff NSPanel will support Philips Hue. More information about that can be read on their Sonoff NSPanel Kickstarter campaign updates page.

What will come?

With the succes of the Sonoff NSPanel Kickstarter campaign many would expect even more improvements and documentation. Will ITEAD listen to that? And if so: what will be the next improvement? Many asked for a white version of the Sonoff NSpanel. Will they create a white version of the Sonoff NSPanel? We will see what ITEAD will bring us in the future.

If you are curious whether the Sonoff NSpanel is a great device for you: we have reviewed it and we were happy about the Sonoff NSPanel!
